Birthday for a bridge

Not just any bridge but the great bridge spanning San Francisco’s Golden Gate.  On Sunday May 27, the fog cleared and the scene was set for a dazzling specatacle.  A cascade of fire from the whole length of the bridge opened the show like a golden waterfall into the San Francisco Bay.  I was out on a sail boat getting increasing cold and queasy waiting for the last light to disappear from the sky before the fireworks began.  Shooting from a moving boat, in the dark is like juggling on a monocycle, although I haven’t tried that recently!  Fortunately the latest generation of digital cameras has expanded the possibilities for low light photography to remarkable levels.  The black cat in a coal mine is no longer an impossible subject.  Enjoy the show.
